Bernard Shaw called Temple “a realized impossibility”, because he had so many talents and was so influential as a leading Anglican churchman. He called for social reform and backed the coming of Britain’s welfare state during the 1930s and 40s. See Paul’s brief account of his life in his essay on Temple.
